FINDING LAYLA #CHAPTER 2

Chapter 2

Daniel POV

I was busy checking all the files for our newest project. Tons of files piled up on my table. This was because I took an emergency leaves for a whole week. Last week, we just got back from my aunt’s place and my three years old twins, Sofyana and Sofyan both caught a cold. It might be due to the weather changes. I was so worried when they got sick. They were born premature. So, whenever they got sick even a small caught, I got really worried. As you could see, I raised the twins by myself.

Flashback

A week of waiting finally ended. I was so glad that I got to be back home. Last week, I received a call from my mum that my wife was admitted to the hospital to give birth of our babies. I felt happy and sad at the same time. Happy because I could wait to meet our angles and sad because I couldn’t be there with my wife during the precious moment.

At this moment, I was still in the plane back home. I bought some souvenir for my wife and our babies. When my flight landed, I rushed to hospital where my wife and kids stayed. My mom told me where my babies were. I quickly went there to find my mom first. She showed me my beautiful babies. I had a pair of twins. A cute little girl and a handsome little boy. I could see that my boy so much alike to me except for his black hair while the little girl was a copy of her mom with my dark brown hair. They were placed in separated incubators as the were born few weeks early. I was instructed to wear the specialized gown before I got to enter the NICU. I got the chances to hold their little hands.

“Assalamualaikum, my little angles. Daddy’s here,” I said. I could feel my eyes were watery as I was so grateful to the God for giving me this opportunity.

Sometime later, I walked out from the NICU and met my mom. “Mom, where is my wife? Where is her room? I want to meet her.” I look at my mom and she didn’t utter a word. I approached her and put my hands on her shoulder and asked again. “Mom, where’s my wife?” She still remained silent. Before I could ask her one last time, someone came to me, a doctor I assumed.

“Are you Mr Daniel Irshad?” I nodded. I had no more courage to talk as my mind was imaging the worst scenario.

“I’m sorry to tell you that your wife passed away after giving birth to the twins. She had a condition that we called placental abruption which causing hemorrhage. She lost so much blood and we had tried our best to save her but we couldn’t,” the doctor explained.

My legs were no longer able to support me as I fell to my knee. I could feel my world collapsed the moment the news reached my ear. I shook my head not believing the words said by the doctor. I cried aloud as I could feel my heart hurt.

Almost one month, I shut my world from others except for my kids. I spent most of my time with the twins. I decided to name them Sofyana and Sofyan. If my wife was still here, she must be very happy because she really wanted to name our kids any name with letter Y in it. She said it could be a remembrance of her if she was not around. How could I not notice it before?

Another month passed by; I received a picture of my wife with a man from anonymous sender. I got so mad as I felt betrayed. The next day, I received a divorce paper. Without wasting my time, I agreed to divorced her. In Islam, only man has the power to divorce his wife. However, if the wife is abused by the husband, she has the right to file a divorce to the Syariah court in Malaysia. After our divorced was finalized and due to some reasons, I got the full custody of the twins.

End of flashback

It had been three years. I really regretted my decision after knowing the truth. Now, I have to find and get her back.

I finished half of my work and brought back the other half home. I needed to rush to attend a very important appointment. On my way to that place, I saw an accident, a car hit a big tree. The car hood was ruined badly. I parked my car at the roadside, and went to check for the victim. I was so surprised to see the lady in the car was my ex-wife. Quickly, I called for ambulance. While waiting for the ambulance to arrive, I tried pulling her out and gave her first aid treatment. I was glad that I could feel her pulses.

God, please don’t let me lose her again.
