FINDING LAYLA #CHAPTER 2

Chapter 2

Daniel POV

I was busy checking all the files for our newest project. Tons of files piled up on my table. This was because I took an emergency leaves for a whole week. Last week, we just got back from my aunt’s place and my three years old twins, Sofyana and Sofyan both caught a cold. It might be due to the weather changes. I was so worried when they got sick. They were born premature. So, whenever they got sick even a small caught, I got really worried. As you could see, I raised the twins by myself.

Flashback

A week of waiting finally ended. I was so glad that I got to be back home. Last week, I received a call from my mum that my wife was admitted to the hospital to give birth of our babies. I felt happy and sad at the same time. Happy because I could wait to meet our angles and sad because I couldn’t be there with my wife during the precious moment.

At this moment, I was still in the plane back home. I bought some souvenir for my wife and our babies. When my flight landed, I rushed to hospital where my wife and kids stayed. My mom told me where my babies were. I quickly went there to find my mom first. She showed me my beautiful babies. I had a pair of twins. A cute little girl and a handsome little boy. I could see that my boy so much alike to me except for his black hair while the little girl was a copy of her mom with my dark brown hair. They were placed in separated incubators as the were born few weeks early. I was instructed to wear the specialized gown before I got to enter the NICU. I got the chances to hold their little hands.

“Assalamualaikum, my little angles. Daddy’s here,” I said. I could feel my eyes were watery as I was so grateful to the God for giving me this opportunity.

Sometime later, I walked out from the NICU and met my mom. “Mom, where is my wife? Where is her room? I want to meet her.” I look at my mom and she didn’t utter a word. I approached her and put my hands on her shoulder and asked again. “Mom, where’s my wife?” She still remained silent. Before I could ask her one last time, someone came to me, a doctor I assumed.

“Are you Mr Daniel Irshad?” I nodded. I had no more courage to talk as my mind was imaging the worst scenario.

“I’m sorry to tell you that your wife passed away after giving birth to the twins. She had a condition that we called placental abruption which causing hemorrhage. She lost so much blood and we had tried our best to save her but we couldn’t,” the doctor explained.

My legs were no longer able to support me as I fell to my knee. I could feel my world collapsed the moment the news reached my ear. I shook my head not believing the words said by the doctor. I cried aloud as I could feel my heart hurt.

Almost one month, I shut my world from others except for my kids. I spent most of my time with the twins. I decided to name them Sofyana and Sofyan. If my wife was still here, she must be very happy because she really wanted to name our kids any name with letter Y in it. She said it could be a remembrance of her if she was not around. How could I not notice it before?

Another month passed by; I received a picture of my wife with a man from anonymous sender. I got so mad as I felt betrayed. The next day, I received a divorce paper. Without wasting my time, I agreed to divorced her. In Islam, only man has the power to divorce his wife. However, if the wife is abused by the husband, she has the right to file a divorce to the Syariah court in Malaysia. After our divorced was finalized and due to some reasons, I got the full custody of the twins.

End of flashback

It had been three years. I really regretted my decision after knowing the truth. Now, I have to find and get her back.

I finished half of my work and brought back the other half home. I needed to rush to attend a very important appointment. On my way to that place, I saw an accident, a car hit a big tree. The car hood was ruined badly. I parked my car at the roadside, and went to check for the victim. I was so surprised to see the lady in the car was my ex-wife. Quickly, I called for ambulance. While waiting for the ambulance to arrive, I tried pulling her out and gave her first aid treatment. I was glad that I could feel her pulses.

God, please don’t let me lose her again.

FINDING LAYLA #CHAPTER 1

Chapter 1
Layla POV

“See you tomorrow, Layla!” She shouted. That’s Emy, my one and only worker at my bakery. She had started working with me since I opened this bakery which was two years ago. She’s younger than me by one year but she’s my best friend. Me and my mom just moved to this small town three years ago.

“Okay. Drive safely,” I replied. I was still busy wiping the tables. It had been my routine to make sure the bakery was cleaned before I closed it and went back home. After about twenty minutes, I had done my cleaning job and locked the door. My bakery located five minutes away from home so I usually walked to work.

“Mom, I’m home!”

“I’m in the kitchen,” I heard my mom’s voices from afar. I went there and hugged her from behind. I love my mom so much. My dad died when I was twelve. So since then, we went through all the struggles together. My mom was a nurse. She just retired the year when we moved here.

“Layla, have you done baking the cakes ordered by Mrs Jones?” I snatched a piece of cookies in the plate. Mom’s baked cookies always the best.

“Yup. I did finish her order this evening. Why?” I replied and bit the cookies. Homemade chocolate cookies always be my favorite.

“I received her call just now and she wanted to ask if you can deliver her order by tomorrow morning. Of course, you can, right?” I ignored her for a while. This was really my mom. She hardly said no to other. Sometime, I even wondered what kind of nurse she was. I always heard nurses were undoubtedly fierce.

“Of course, I can, mom. I would do anything for you,” I kissed her left cheek before running to my room.

“Please deliver it by nine, okay!” She shouted and I could hear it clearly even I’m now in my room.

“Okay.”

The next morning, I went to the bakery a bit earlier than usual. I needed to do some checking for the ingredients. Mrs Jones’ house located in the town and it took thirty minutes driving. Because of that, I would like to do some ingredients shopping at the supermarket. Around eight o’clock, Emy arrived.

“You’re early today. You must have some deliveries at the town, right?” Emy guessed.

“You truly are my best worker I’ve ever had!”

“You only have one actually,” She grabbed her apron from the cloth hanger and wore it.

“Since you knew that already, come here and give me a hand with the boxes.” She followed my instruction and helped me put them inside the car. After all the boxes had been arranged in the car, I started the engine and went to deliver them.

I arrived at Mrs Jones house ten minutes before nine. I called her phone to let her know that I had arrived. The automatic gate wide opened allowing me to enter the house. I park my car at the driveway. Mrs Jones approached me.

“Oh, Layla. I’m very thankful to you because you can fulfill my wishes to have the cakes this morning. I’m so sorry for troubling you early morning.”

“I don’t mind Mrs Jones. Besides, you’re my loyal customer. I will try to fulfill your demand as best as I can,” She called her maids to take the boxes inside. Later, Mrs Jones handed me the money.

“Thank you, Mrs Jones. Enjoy your cake!” I said before leaving her big house. I always dreamed to live in a house as big as hers. Then, I drove to the supermarket to get the items I needed for my bakery. While driving my way home, I noticed from afar there was a big lorry of the opposite direction driving in my lane. Before I could dodge the big lorry, I lost control and hit the tree. That was the last thing I could remember before I closed my eyes.

FINDING LAYLA #CHAPTER 9

Chapter 9

Daniel then left the twin’s room and went to the master bedroom. While me, still staying in there. I gently caressed Sofyan’s cheek and kissed his forehead. He was the carbon copy of Daniel but with my black hair and dark brown eyes. I then changed position to face Sofyana. I gently moved away some of her hair that covered her head before placing a soft kiss on top of it.

Am I that bad that even the kids couldn’t feel my love?

Honestly, I felt hurt and sad when they said I didn’t love them. I love them so much. I knew I was not their real mom but I promised to myself to love them as much as I could.

Who can resist these two little angles? They are too adorable not to be loved.

I walked away from their room and to the master bedroom only to find my husband was already in bed. I planned to ask him about the letter. I got into the bed beside Daniel.

“ Daniel, can I ask you something?” With all the courage I had, I asked him.

“ You already ask a question.” He answered and still focusing his eyes to his book.

“ Erm,, About the letter-“

“ I’m sorry about this evening. I didn’t mean to be mad at you.” He cut my words. Now, he was facing me. Before I could reply he continued, “ About the letter, I thought it was really from you. From the last two years, we had been received letters which we assumed it was from you. Obviously, it’s your name there. So, when that letter came this evening. I’m confused. If it’s not from you then whom?”

“ I’m not sure about that. Daniel, can I read the letter? I really want to know the content of the letter,” I replied. Daniel opened the drawer from his bedside and took the letter out. He seemed reluctant to give it to me. I took the letter from him and started to read.

My dearest Sofyan and Sofyana,
Happy third birthday, babies! May Allah bless and protect you whenever you are. I know you both are unable to read but I still want to write this letter because I know that your daddy will help me read this letter for you. He’s one of the kindest persons I’ve ever met. I’m really sorry for not being with you guys on your birthday but my love for you never stops. I really hope I can be with you to celebrate your birthday. Even though I’m not there, you guys still have your daddy and grandma with you. I also know he will do his very best to take care of you cause you are his world. Lastly, please take care of your daddy for me and always remember that even mommy is gone, mommy’s love will stay with you forever.
                                                                                                                 Love,
                                                                                                     Mommy, Layla.

I put the letter back into the cover. I felt my heart ached. I clutched my left chest as the I felt it’s tightening. The letter fell from my hand and onto the bed. Daniel moved towards me and helped me calm down. I could see his worry in his eyes.

“ Are you alright, Layla?” He put one hand on my shoulder. I tried controlling my breathing and felt less pain in my chest. I smile a bit to Daniel and put his hand off me.

“I’m fine. It’s just an anxiety attack.”

“ Are you sure?” I nodded. He hurriedly hugged me and said, “ Please, don’t make me scared. I could bear to lose you this time,” I nodded again and patted his back slowly.

Why he looks so scared?
