Chapter 1
Layla POV
“See you
tomorrow, Layla!” She shouted. That’s Emy, my one and only worker at my bakery.
She had started working with me since I opened this bakery which was two years ago.
She’s younger than me by one year but she’s my best friend. Me and my mom just
moved to this small town three years ago.
“Okay. Drive safely,” I replied. I was still busy wiping the tables. It had been my routine to
make sure the bakery was cleaned before I closed it and went back home. After about
twenty minutes, I had done my cleaning job and locked the door. My bakery located
five minutes away from home so I usually walked to work.
“Mom, I’m
home!”
“I’m in the
kitchen,” I heard my mom’s voices from afar. I went there and hugged her from
behind. I love my mom so much. My dad died when I was twelve. So since then, we
went through all the struggles together. My mom was a nurse. She just retired
the year when we moved here.
“Layla, have
you done baking the cakes ordered by Mrs Jones?” I snatched a piece of cookies in
the plate. Mom’s baked cookies always the best.
“Yup. I did
finish her order this evening. Why?” I replied and bit the cookies. Homemade chocolate
cookies always be my favorite.
“I received her
call just now and she wanted to ask if you can deliver her order by tomorrow
morning. Of course, you can, right?” I ignored her for a while. This was really
my mom. She hardly said no to other. Sometime, I even wondered what kind of
nurse she was. I always heard nurses were undoubtedly fierce.
“Of course, I
can, mom. I would do anything for you,” I kissed her left cheek before running
to my room.
“Please
deliver it by nine, okay!” She shouted and I could hear it clearly even I’m now
in my room.
“Okay.”
The next
morning, I went to the bakery a bit earlier than usual. I needed to do some checking
for the ingredients. Mrs Jones’ house located in the town and it took thirty
minutes driving. Because of that, I would like to do some ingredients shopping at the supermarket.
Around eight o’clock, Emy arrived.
“You’re
early today. You must have some deliveries at the town, right?” Emy guessed.
“You truly
are my best worker I’ve ever had!”
“You only have
one actually,” She grabbed her apron from the cloth hanger and wore it.
“Since you
knew that already, come here and give me a hand with the boxes.” She followed
my instruction and helped me put them inside the car. After all the boxes had
been arranged in the car, I started the engine and went to deliver them.
I arrived at
Mrs Jones house ten minutes before nine. I called her phone to let her know
that I had arrived. The automatic gate wide opened allowing me to enter the
house. I park my car at the driveway. Mrs Jones approached me.
“Oh, Layla. I’m
very thankful to you because you can fulfill my wishes to have the cakes this
morning. I’m so sorry for troubling you early morning.”
“I don’t mind
Mrs Jones. Besides, you’re my loyal customer. I will try to fulfill your demand
as best as I can,” She called her maids to take the boxes inside. Later, Mrs
Jones handed me the money.
“Thank you,
Mrs Jones. Enjoy your cake!” I said before leaving her big house. I always
dreamed to live in a house as big as hers. Then, I drove to the supermarket to
get the items I needed for my bakery. While driving my way home, I noticed from
afar there was a big lorry of the opposite direction driving in my lane. Before
I could dodge the big lorry, I lost control and hit the tree. That was the last
thing I could remember before I closed my eyes.
So, how is the first chapter? Let me know in the comment. Thank you.
